Antonia Gentry was born to parents Sandra Gentry and Tony Gentry on 25 September 1997 in Atlanta. Antonia currently lives in Los Angeles.

Gentry didn't witness many mixed marriages or stories on television or in movies, which she later realized she wished she had experienced.

She had someone to whom she could trust and receive advice. Ginny, her main character, has nobody with whom she can discuss her identity. Gentry contributed to the Black Lives Matter movement by sharing her childhood as a multicultural girl.

She urges people to not only recognize that racism is an issue in the United States but also to undertake actions to eradicate racism, as per The Net Lines.

Antonia and Ginny's experiences as biracial teens diverge. "Her mom is white. My mom is Black.," shares Antonia. "Growing up, my mom was someone I could confide in if I ever felt sure about my identity because she understood her being a Black woman," says Gentry in Teen Vogue.
