He was born and raised in an Indian Gujarati family with his brother. According to Fiction Horizon, his mother is Gujarati, and his father is Punjabi.

He has revealed that he is very fond of his grandmother, who, regrettably, passed away in the earlier months of 2022. He mentioned that she taught him how to have strength in the face of adversity.

His grandmother was a single mother to five children. Amar revealed that she even helped her children raise their children even through many hardships. She had 12 grandchildren, one of whom is Amar himself.

Some of his cousins' names he has shared are Asha, Rakesh, Maya, and Reema. Reema Patel is a writer; she recently published a book called Such Big Dreams. Amar is a big inspiration for Reema's pursuit of writing. He posted about her book on May 11, 2022, promoting it.

While he is trending because of his role in Willow, Amar is already a successful actor. He started acting in 1993 and has been in the industry since as an actor, writer, and director.

When he was seven, he first appeared as Amrik on Bhaji on the Beach. In 2010, he appeared in It's a Wonderful Afterlife as himself.

He has appeared in several shorts, mini-series, TV series, stretches, movies, and even a video game called House Hack as Barney, as well as a music video, Geroge Ezra: Budapest.
