10. Moonfall
Moonfall is a science fiction disaster movie from 2022 that was co-written, directed, and produced by Roland Emmerich.
Two former astronauts and a conspiracy theorist are central to the story as they learn the Moon's real history after it abruptly departs from its orbit. It had a $138–146 million budget, making it one of the most expensive produced movies.
It was filmed in Montreal. On February 4, 2022, the same day it was released in theaters in the US by Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment, the movie was distributed in the UK by Entertainment Film Distributors.
With a worldwide total of under $67 million, it was one of the worst box office flops ever and garnered neutral to unfavorable reviews from critics. In the movie, on a Space Shuttle mission to fix a satellite in 2011, astronauts Brian Harper, Jocinda "Jo" Fowler, and Marcus are participating.
An odd swarm of extraterrestrial technology strikes the orbiter before it digs into the Moon's surface, killing Marcus and putting Jo into a coma. Brian returns with the damaged shuttle to Earth, but NASA ignores his account and fires him.
