Peggy Flanagan was an American politician serving as the 50th lieutenant governor of Minnesota. She was elected as lieutenant governor on November 6, 2018.

She is a Democratic political organizer and activist. Flanagan was involved in various political campaigns and progressive political organizing. She is also the official member of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labour Party (DFL).

Flanagan revealed that she was in a relationship with the Minnesota Public Radio News host, Tom Weber, through her Facebook page on January 12, 2018. 

MPR News announced they are reassigning Weber and that he would no longer cover the governor's race, potential legislation, a public policy involving executive or legislative branches, or any topic related to November 2018 election.

She married Weber in September 2019. The couple has no child together.

5. Peggy Flanagan's Political Career

Flanagan worked on the Democratic US Senator Paul campaign and became the Urban Native American Community organizer during her college years. 

She won the Minneapolis Board of Education in 2004 in her first election. The six candidates featured two incumbents, to the political newcomer Flanagan who got many votes.

She was elected with Lydia Lee and Sharon Henry- Blythe. She served one term on board from 2005-2009. 

She advocated for the successful 2014 effort to raise Minnesota's minimum wage.

On July 28, 2016, Peggy became the first American woman to address the Democratic National Convention from the podium.

She worked as a Minnesota House of Representatives member from 2015 to 2019.

Flanagan became a candidate for lieutenant governor by joining Congressman Tim Walz in the 2018 Minnesota gubernatorial election 2017.

The pair, Tim and Penny, defeated the Republican ticket of Jeff Johnson and Donna Bergstrom in the general election.

With the victory, she became the first racial minority woman elected to statewide office in Minnesota and the second Native American woman in statewide elected office in the United States.

Penny Flanagan has been leading in setting up the Walz administration.

Since 2019, she has been the Lieutenant governor. Her term ends in 2023.
