Asa Hutchinson defeated the member democratic, Mike Ross, in the general election with 55% of the vote. With his victory, the GOP had complete control of state government for the first time.

During the 2018 election, he won with the most significant margin of victory for a Republican candidate in Arkansas history.

From 2020 to 2021, he served as vice chair of the National Governors Association and succeeded Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York.

Hutchinson accepted a contract with Venable LLP as the chair of its Homeland Security practice but ended his contract due to his gubernatorial campaign.

According to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, he has a $2,800 investment in fortress America Acquisition Corporation. A company was worth over $1 million.

In 1982, Hutchinson became the youngest appointed U.S. Attorney appointed by President Ronald Reagan for the United States Western District of Arkansas.

Before becoming the U.S. Attorney, he practiced law for 21 years after graduating from the University of Arkansas School of Law.
