Ben Sasse announced his candidacy after Republican Mike Johanns was not seeking re-election.

He expressed strong opposition to the Affordable Care Act. He secured the Republican nomination with109,829 votes.

Ben won the general election defeating David Domina with 64.4% of the vote to Domina's 31.5%.
