Early life of Mike Huckabee
Mike Huckabee, the son of Dorsey Wiles Huckabee(1923-1996) and Mae Huckabee(1925-1999), was born on August 24, 1955.
His father was a fireman and mechanic, and his mother worked as a clerk at a local gas company.
He has a sister. Her name is Pat Harris, a middle school teacher. He has English, German and Scots-high ancestry with roots in America.
He had his first job at 14 at a radio station where he read the news and weather. He was a student council Vice President at Hope High School during the 1971-72 school year. He was also the student council President during 1972-73. He entered the ministry in 1972 at Garrett Memorial Baptist Church in Hope.
He graduated from Ouachita Baptist University with Bachelor in Religion on May 8, 1978, and attended Southwestern Baptist Technological Seminary in Texas. He dropped the seminary after one year to take a job in Christian broadcasting. Huckabee later attended Marquette University in 1990.
Mike Huckabee served as a pastor at Immanuel Baptist Church in Pine Bluff from 1980 to 1986. In 1986 he was a pastor at the Beach Street First Baptist Church in Texarkana. When he was 21 years old, He became a staff for televangelist James Robins.
In 1992, Huckabee turned to politics. The following year, he won Lieutenant Governor of Arkansas and served from 1993-1996. He was sworn in as Governor of Arkansas in 1996 and remained until 2007.
He was the third-highest serving governor in Arkansas History. During his tenant, he also served as chairman of the National Governors Association from 2005 to 2006.
