The show revolves around the McLusky family, who tackles the themes of systemic racism, corruption, and inequality in Kingstown, Michigan, where the business of incarceration is the only primary and growing business. 

The lead role is Jeremy Renner as Mike McLusky, Dianne Wiest as Miriam McLusky, and Hugh Dillon as Ian. According to the show's IMDB profile, it is also nominated for two awards during its runtime. 

The show currently has a good viewer rating on its IMDB profile, with 8.2 out of 10 based on 26k user votes. The Mayor of Kingstown is rated TV-MA, which is unsuitable for all ages.

The Mayor Of Kingstown is inspired by Kingston, Ontario long history of the prison system. The city consists of six prisons which ran until 2018.

The series' central filming location was Kingston Penitentiary, one of the oldest prisons in the city, where the real-life Grace Marks served her life sentence in Alias Grace.

Kingstown is a fictional town set in the series, based on Kingston city, located on the northeastern end of Lake Ontario, Canada. The city served as the central location for filming the show and where co-creator Hugh Dillon was born.

Hugh grew up in Kingston and is well aware of the city, prison, crime, and brutality from his childhood. Hugh stated that as a child, he was sacred about the city. Whatever horrifying activities happened in the country, the killers and murderers were captured and brought to his hometown.

So, in this periphery, he developed the story's tale and named it Mayor Of Kingstown.

The series' theme location for prison scenes was Kingston Penitentiary, also known as Kingston Pen, located at 560 King St W in Kingston. Most prison scenes are pictured in the place to make the scene more realistic for the audience.

According to the Atlas of Wonder, Hamilton served as the filming location for most of the episodes, including Mike and Mitch's initial encounter and McLusky's workplace, as well as the home that the police team attacked.

In addition to Hamilton, other locations, including Toronto, South Etobicoke, Brantford, and Burlington, have also been used throughout the filming of numerous series episodes.
