Catherine Cortez Masto’s Early Life
Catherine Cortex Masto was born in 1996 on March 29 in Los Vegas, Nevada, U.S.
She is the daughter of her mother, Joanna Cortez, and her father, Manny Cortez.
Her father, the head of the Las Vegas Convention for a long time and the Visitor Authority, served as a member of the Clark County Commission.
Her Grandfather, Eduardo Cortez, immigrated from Chihuahua, Mexico, to Nevada.
She attended the University of Nevada, Reno, for her Bachelor's Degree. She completed her degree in finance in 1986 and 1990.
She earned a Juris Doctor degree from Gonzaga University School of Law. Catherine got married to Paul Masto in Los Vegas, who was the United States Secret Service Agent.
In 1990 Cortez Masto was elected member of the State Bar of Nevada. Also, in 1991 she was selected for the U.S. District Court and the District of Nevada.
In 1994 she joined the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Cortez also worked as a civil attorney for four years in Las Vegas.
As a criminal prosecutor, she worked for two years for the U.S Attorney's Office in Washington, DC, before being elected for Nevada attorney general in 2006, replacing George Chanos.
