Who Is Jim Clyburn's Wife, Emily Clyburn?
Jim's wife, Emily Clyburn, was known for many things, including her longtime career as a librarian and her philanthropy, especially to her alma mater and the Girl Scouts. She was born in Whitesville in Berkeley County to her father, Peter England, and her mother, Mattie England.
She was raised alongside her siblings, Arthur England and Mattie Mae England Wadley. She completed her high school at Berkeley Training High School in Moncks Corner. Later in 1961, she earned a bachelor's in library science degree from South Carolina State.

Furthermore, in 1977, she received a Master's in Librarianship from the University of South Carolina. Many knew her affectionately as Ms. Emily or Dr. Em worked as a public school librarian in Columbia and Charleston before becoming a medical librarian at the Charleston Naval Base and the Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia for 29 years.
Additionally, Emily was a member of the Morris Brown AME Church in Charleston and a life member of the NAACP. Jim and Emily were both devoted to their alma institution, providing funds to re-establish SCSU's Honors College and establishing the Dr. Emily England Clyburn Honors College Scholarship Endowment.
Her entire life, she was committed and worked for civil rights and access to education. Moreover, she was also a member of the South Carolina State University National Alumni Association and the Congressional Black Caucus Spouses Association.
