Amy Klobuchar is a well-known political figure married to her loving husband, John D. Bessler. They have been married for almost thirty years and have a daughter together. 

Amy Klobuchar in full Amy Jean Klobuchar is a politician and lawyer serving as Minnesota's senior senator, a position she has held since 2007. Raised in Plymouth, Minnesota, Klobuchar is a Yale University and University of Chicago Law School alumna.

Before being elected county attorney for Hennepin County in 1998, she was a partner at two Minneapolis law firms. Amy is now in charge of all criminal prosecution in Minnesota's most populated county. Being a Democratic Party affiliate in Minnesota, she is a member of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL).

Klobuchar was chosen as a Democrat for the U.S. Senate in 2006, and she started serving Minnesota the following year. In that legislature, she was the first woman to be elected to represent the State of Minnesota in the United States Senate.

Moreover, in her role as Chairwoman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Competition Policy, Antitrust, and Consumer Rights, Senator Klobuchar has worked to strengthen American antitrust regulations and bring competition back to the nation's marketplaces.

Who Is Amy Klobuchar's Husband John D. Bessler?


Sen. Amy Klobuchar is married to her husband, John D. Bessler, an attorney and academic. Like Amy, he is a native of Minnesota. Amy was raised in the Minneapolis suburbs, whereas John was born and raised in Mankato, Minnesota.

Bill and Marilyn Bessler, John's parents, were both professors at Minnesota State University. Similarly, Bessler teaches law at the Georgetown University Law Center and is an adjunct professor at the University of Baltimore School of Law.

He formerly lectured in death penalty-related subjects at The George Washington University Law School and The University of Minnesota Law School. He became a law clerk for U.S. Magistrate Judge John M. Mason of the District of Minnesota. Moreover, he spent many years as a partner in the Minneapolis legal firm Kelly & Berens, P.A. practicing civil litigation full-time.

Talking about his education, he received a political science B.A. from the University of Minnesota. He was in the position of Senior Managing Editor of the Indiana Law Journal at the Bloomington campus of Indiana University School of Law.

Furthermore, he also holds a master's degree in international human rights law from Oxford University and an M.F.A. in creative writing from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota. Bessler was a visiting professor at The George Washington University Law School. He supervised the writing center and instructed comparative criminal law, contracts, civil procedure, and international human rights law classes.

He is a recognized expert on capital punishment, having authored five books and several book chapters and articles. Legacy of Violence: Lynch Mobs and Executions in Minnesota and Death in the Dark: Midnight Executions in America, two of Bessler's works, were finalists for Minnesota Book Awards.

Amy Klobuchar And John D. Bessler Married Life

Amy and John have a blissful married life with thirty years of togetherness. The pair initially met at Coyote Cafe in Minneapolis and instantly fell in love. Not long after they met, the couple decided to marry a year later, in 1993.

Klobuchar posted a picture of their wedding day on the day of their twenty-ninth wedding anniversary. The pair have a strong bond and are very supportive of each other.

During their marriage, the pair have a daughter named Abigail Bessler. She is twenty-six years old and is following in her mother's footsteps graduating from Yale in 2017, where she hosted the Undergraduate Admissions podcast and wrote for the Yale Daily News.

Amy's father, Jim Klobuchar, was a columnist for the Star Tribune newspaper, and her mother, Rose, taught elementary school and continued teaching until she was 70.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar has a net worth of $1.5 million. Since she joined the Senate, she and her husband have made between $200,000 and $300,000 almost every year. 

According to the couple's tax forms, she received a federal government salary of $174,000 per year. John earned six figures from teaching at George Washington University, Georgetown University, and the University of Baltimore.
